Indian black tea with cinnamon, cardamom, aniseed, ginger, cloves and black pepper. Traditionally prepared with milk and sugar.
Chai is the Pakistani, Indian, Afghan, Iranian, Armenian, Russian, Albanian, Romanian, Turkish and Arabic word for tea, among others. In Dutch it is usually used to indicate a spicy Indian herbal tea (masala chai in Indian).
There is no set chai mixture for the Indian tea. There are a number of solid ingredients: strong black tea, sweetener, milk and spices, the most common being cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, pepper, but other spices can be added.
