Frequently asked questions

What's tea?

The tea plant (Camellia sinensis) is a native plant from    Southeast Asia. The young leaves of this plant are used to produce tea. Sinensis is Latin for Chinese. Today tea is grown all over the world in tropical and subtropical regions. White tea, green tea, oolong and black tea are made from these    leaves.

The tea plant is an evergreen plant or small tree that can reach a height of 17 m, but is usually pruned below two meters when grown for the leaves.  The flowers are yellow white with a diameter of about 2.5–4 cm with 7 or 8 petals.

When a tea bush is four years old, it can be harvested for the first time. For the most refined teas, only the leaf  (bud) with the top two young leaves is picked, 'two leaves & a bud'. Fully grown leaves are also used for teas with a more robust taste.
